Rochester Poets will be devoting its September reading at St. John Fisher College to 100 Thousand Poets for Change.
Our event will be held on Sunday, September 18, from 2-4 pm; we plan to expand those hours a bit to about 6 pm to give everyone a chance to participate. As usual, we’ll be in the Ross Gallery of the Skalny Welcome Center, which is literally the first building on the left when you enter the Fisher campus from the main entrance at East Ave & Fairport Rd. As with our Poets Against the War & Occupation events, we not only welcome all poets from the Western New York region but also singers, musicians, comics and those who want to say something about change — especially the changes we need in America in this time of rightward drift towards a have & have-not country. A country where it’s no longer unthinkable to advocate for the abolition of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unions, and even voting rights.
100 Thousand Poets for Change is a worldwide event that will be primarily taking place on Saturday, September 24. We’ll be kicking off 100KPFC week with our event and invite you to join us.

If you participated in our 100TPC kickoff last Sunday, please email me copies of what you read/performed so our contributions can be included when Stanford University, which recognized this largest poetry event in history as deserving recognition and preservation, saves the entire 100TPC.org site with their digital archiving program LOCKSS.
And don’t forget the other 100TPC events this week in various cities — check dates and times in the right sidebar of any page on the official 100TPC site. Most events will be held this coming Saturday, September 24. If you live in upstate New York, there are events in Buffalo, Toronto, Syracuse, Ithaca, Albany, and a second Rochester event at the Flying Squirrel space at Troop & Clarissa Streets starting at 10 am.
Rochester Poets has committed to sponsoring “100 Thousand Poets for Change 2012”! Once Michael Rothenberg provides a date, we’ll let you know. We look forward to seeing you all again. Founder Michael Rothenberg has announced that the 2012 “100 Thousand Poets for Change” will be held on September 29, the last Saturday of the month. Our regular Rochester Poets reading will be on Sunday, September 16. We’ll probably use that as our 100 TPC kickoff. But that’s a year away; we may decide to switch to September 23 to keep our event closer to the official worldwide 100 TPC day. We’ll keep you posted.
