THE TEL AVIV EVENTS

In Israel, we held 4 different events throughout the day:

10:00, Donate a Word! Om Saturday morning, we went to Tel Aviv’s beach-esplanade and took pictures of over 100 people, holding word-signs which they created with pens and cardboards, in an attempt to create a huge poem http://100k.org.il/100kpoem2011.php?page=all.

15:00, Book Worm Bookstore: Poetry Reading. With over 15 readers, and an audience of over 50 listeners, we met at Book Worm Bookstore, and held a vibrating poetry reading. Both well known, uprising and aspiring poets from all over Israel read of their finest poetry, with two musical performances by Dana Lotterman of Seven Band and Oded Kahn of Mindless Echoes. It was an amazing reading in one of the most unique book stores in Tel Aviv.

18:00, CafeCafe Coffee Place: Poetry Reading. In the same mindset as the event in Book Worm Bookstore, we held a poetry reading with about 16 readers and an audience of about 45 listeners. This event, somewhat smaller in scale, was a wonderful event with the participation of readers from various organizations such as UCW (Union of Creative Women of Israel).

21:00, Papa’s Restaurant: Closing Event. The closure event was a big poetry reading, with about 18 readers including some of the best Israeli poets, with Rafi Weichert, Rahel Halfi, Karen Alkalay-Gut and many many more, along with a mix of upcoming poets and artists, students and artists. The event ended at about 23:30, with a very tired yet satisfied audience.

Throughout the day we were interviewed on radio shows, talked with reporters and enthusiastic artists and creators, and enjoying a day of wide and amazing poetry in the name of change for good. The entire team who worked on this event were amazing, and it turned out to be one of the biggest poetry events in Tel Aviv, with about 300 participants. For a country where a casual poetry event has barely 20 participants, this was a huge success which was greatly felt by the participants. Thank you all for participating in this wonderful worldwide event, looking forward for next year!

Poetry “Write In for Change” part of 100 Thousand Poets for Change Project

When: 9.24.11 10am-12noon

12 HOURS OF POETRY IN GREENBORO

Where: Central Library 219 N Church St Greensboro, NC 27401 336-373-3617
http://www.meetup.com/triadpoetry/calendar/

Members of the New Garden Friends Poetry Group will guide writers of all levels in writing and reviewing poems in the Booklovers Coffee Shop.

A public reading will begin about 11:30am.

Poet and fiction writer Valerie Nieman, who publishes with Press 53, will teach a workshop for children.

It takes place from 1-4 at the Witherspoon Art Gallery, and is called Peeking Behind the Mask

Each day we go about our routine lives, but inside we are superheroes or explorers, pirates or rock stars, hiding our secret identities behind a mask of an unassuming face and daily clothes. With the backdrop of Witherspoon’s current exhibition, “Persona: A Body in Parts,” we’ll explore our own secret identities and “peek behind the mask” of famous folks (real or fictional) to imagine their thoughts and lives. One way to enter this secret world is to write a persona poem – persona meaning mask – in which we give a voice to that alternate identity. Join poet and novelist Valerie Nieman in the Witherspoon lobby for a drop-in poetry experience for all ages. In addition, use a variety of materials to create your own magnificent mask to wear. At 3:00 pm we’ll celebrate with live improvisational jazz and a spoken word sharing.

In Greensboro, at 10:00 AM at the Central branch of the Public Library, the New Garden poetry group will offer an open workshop for any adult or teen interested in writing a poem.

Also check out the Weatherspoon’s Annual Community Day and Triad Poetry Meetup for poetry events in the afternoon at Weatherspoon Art Museum and from 6:00 to 10:00 at Tate Street Coffee House. All events are free.
