EVENT: Group Poetry Reading with Exhibit of Photography and Art

DATE AND TIME: September 24, 2011, 4 pm to 8 pm
In collaboration with 100 Thousand Poets for Change, Poet Harris Schiff, Photographer Monica Claire Antonie, and Artist Clark V. Fox will have a reception celebrating the display of their works from the forthcoming book, One More Beat. 100 Thousand Poets for Change has organized readings and events by Poets around the world. The events will occur throughout the day, across the planet on September 24th. There will be some 500 events in more than 50 countries. Each event will have its own focus on social and political change. https://100tpc.org/
A portion of art sales from our Warwick event will be donated to Catskill Mountain Keepers, to support their struggle against the destruction of our watersheds by natural gas drillers using hydraulic fracking in our region.

Readings will take place between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. The readings will be webcast live, as part of the global event, which promises to be the largest poetry reading in history and the first global event of its kind.
ABOUT ONE MORE BEAT
HARRIS SCHIFF’S previous books of poetry include: In The Heart of the Empire, Yo-Yo’s With Money (in collaboration with Ted Berrigan), I Should Run for Cover but I’m Right Here and AbandonShip. He has read at venues in the United States, Europe and Latin America. Harris was a significant participant in The Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church when the second generation of New York School Poets emerged (1968-82). His work appears in many magazines, e-zines and anthologies.
MONICA CLAIRE ANTONIE began taking photographs of poets, painters and performers during the mid-1970’s. She documented poetry readings, performances of New Wave bands and works by artists in Andy Warhol’s sphere of influence. Antonie was the photographer for Lita Hornick’s MoMA poetry reading series during the years 1979-1994. Her photographs have appeared in Nice to See You – Homage to Ted Berrigan, Dabble: Poems 1966-1980 by John Godfrey, Superstar in a Housedress – The Jackie Curtis Movie, Cars and Other Poems, by Elinor Nauen, Audrey Hepburn’s Symphonic Salad and the Coming of Autumn, and The Full Deck Anthology by Tom Weigel. Her videos of poets can be seen on her Accent Editions Channel on You Tube.
CLARK V. FOX, cover-artist, is a Native American Indian who studied with Japanese art master Unichi Hiratsuka in the early 1960’s. His work is in numerous public and private collections including The National Gallery of Art, The Corcoran Museum of Art, The Phillips Collection, The Library of Congress, The National Museum of American Art, The Smithsonian Institution, The Cooper-Hewitt Museum and The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. Clark Fox founded The Museum of Contemporary Art in Washington, D.C. and continued its development for 14 years. He has 53 works in the permanent collection of The National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Since 1966, he has lived and painted in New York City.
